India : Orissa Govt takes measures for Sambalpuri saris - Textile News India

Minister for Textiles and Handloom Ms. Anjali Behera announced that the State Government has finalized the one time settlement of pending dues of Sambalpuri Bastralaya and allocated Rs. 300 million, which will be paid to the concerned bank soon. Rs. 7.24 million has already been provided by the State Government under Promotion of Handloom Industry (POHI) scheme, for overall development of Sambalpuri Bastralaya and 100 work sheds costing Rs. 250 million will also be constructed for its weavers, she added.The Minister paid visit to Sambalpuri Bastralaya Handloom Cooperative Society Limited and reviewed the overall performance of Sambalpuri Bastralaya, as well as the development schemes implemented by the society and their impact. She also had a look at the dye house of the society, the largest in the State handloom sector. The state government intends to set up a special project at an estimated cost of Rs. 6 million under mini-cluster covering Bagbadi, Kushanpuri and Phulapali villages as one unit, she informed.The government is also thinking of setting up two Integrated Handloom Development schemes in Barpali block covering Barpali town, Amamunda, Bandhapali and Jhulopali villages. She added that, assistance from IIT, Khargpur is required to protect the Sambalpuri Ikat designs under the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Act.
